Announcement on UNICEF Social Policy Intern Recruitment

In accordance with the internship cooperation agreement established between our School and the United Nations Children's Fund China Office (hereinafter referred to as UNICEF), and in conformity with UNICEF's latest recruitment notice, the Social Policy Section of UNICEF is now inviting applications for two social policy internship positions from our School. Our School has the privilege to propose 2-3 candidates for these roles. The specific provisions are detailed below:

I. Job Responsibilities

Position 1: Intern in social assistance

The Social Policy Office of UNICEF China is seeking an intern to assist with social protection programs. The intern's responsibilities will encompass, but are not restricted to, the following tasks:

1. Undertaking a comprehensive literature review focusing on the domain of social protection, encompassing areas such as social assistance, health insurance, maternity insurance, and related fields;

2. Offering support in research management, including the reviewing of research reports and the developing of policy briefs and other analytical documents within the social protection sector;

3. Performing an in-depth literature review on policies and practices related to service-oriented social assistance;

4. Crafting engaging content for social media platforms to promote child-sensitive social assistance services;

5. Providing logistical and substantive support for seminars, research events, and activities coordinated by the team and its collaborative partners;

6. Assisting with additional ad-hoc tasks as required.

Position 2: Intern in digital governance

The Social Policy Office of UNICEF China is seeking to enlist an intern to aid in projects associated with data governance, whose responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

1. Project operation and management support: Providing support for related projects of the children's multidimensional vulnerability assessment module in the low-income population dynamic monitoring platform, including:

(1) Framework design and indicator standardization;

(2) Capacity building activities on “responsible data for children”;

2. Literature review and desktop research: Supporting UNICEF’s internal data governance capacity building, covering but not limited to the following areas:

(1) Emerging trends in administrative data, such as the compilation of public data regulations and cases of administrative data abuse;

(2) The intersection of data and emerging technologies, such as using artificial intelligence, blockchain and other technologies to help policy making and public service delivery;

(3) Assisting in organizing relevant activities;

3. Assisting in other social policy related tasks.

II. Job Requirements

1. The internship duration is set at 25 weeks, involving 2-3 office days per week (the exact number of days is negotiable with the supervisor upon commencing the internship). The anticipated start date is late September.

2. For Position 1, applicants should be enrolled in a master's degree or higher in Public Policy, Public Administration, Sociology, or a related field, possess a solid understanding of China's social security framework, demonstrate exceptional writing and communication abilities, and have proficiency in English. For Position 2, candidates are required to hold a background in Law, Data Science, Information Management, or a pertinent area, be a master candidate at least, and be bilingual in Chinese and English.

3. The Law School provides interns with job salary subsidies, which are paid according to the actual working days per month.

III. Application Procedure

3. Application method: Please submit the following application materials by email. The email subject should be "UNICEF Social Policy Intern + Applicant's Name" and sent to yuluping@bnu.edu.cn before the deadline.

(1) Resume in Chinese;

(2) Resume in English;

(3) Internship Application Form (Appendix 1, please do not fill in the form for the college's opinion);

(4) Transcript (in Chinese, the latest transcript of all courses including elective courses downloaded at the Academic Affairs Office);

(5) Proof of English proficiency (download from the official website or take a screenshot);

(6) Other supporting materials such as scientific research results, award certificates, etc.

Except for the job application form, all the above attached materials must be provided in PDF format and named with "name + file name".

4. Detailed information on internship positions is provided in Attachments 2 and 3. Students who meet the application requirements should first contact their supervisor to confirm whether they agree to participate in the internship selection. After the registration deadline, the School will arrange selection and recommend 2-3 students to the School's International Affairs Office. The International Affairs Office will compile a list of candidates and recommend the students to the UNICEF China Office as required. The UNICEF China Office will contact the students for interviews and ultimately determine the intern candidates.
