Message from Lawyer Zhao Chunyu, the donor of Chunhui Criminal Defense Scholarship
Attorney Zhao Chunyu conveyed her expectations for the graduates through a triad of key concepts. First, she emphasized the duality of positivity and negativity. Graduates, she said, must possess the determination to achieve, ensuring their hearts remain bathed in sunlight and brimming with positive vitality. Second, she touched on the balance between short-term and long-term perspectives. In a future rife with uncertainties and competition, graduates should act with integrity, performing good deeds without concern for immediate personal gain. Lastly, Zhao highlighted the distinction between the individual and the greater self. She urged graduates to expand their vistas, to immerse themselves in the broader needs of the collective, and to maintain a sense of the larger self, striving for outcomes that are mutually beneficial.
Part 12 of the Ceremony
Speech by Judge Lin Yihan, an alumni representative and "Beijing Youth Role Model"
Judge Lin Yihan imparted his wisdom to his younger colleagues in three profound statements. First, he advised them to bind themselves with a sense of duty and interact with others with a sense of empowerment, which means to embrace greater obligations towards oneself while granting more rights to others. His second piece of advice was to "pursue with a trembling heart, confront challenges with reverence." He emphasized that new problems and challenges are ever-present, and it is crucial to identify one's weaknesses and strive for continuous self-improvement. The third sentence was "Approach with a seeking heart, and handle matters with a composed mind." For those in the legal profession, he advocated for a lifelong commitment to learning, while also maintaining a tranquil and unassuming demeanor.
Part 13 of the Ceremony
Speech by Associate Professor Shang Haowen, a faculty representative
Associate Professor Shang Haowen reminded students that in this era of globalization, it is imperative not to indulge in self-blame. Instead, we should introspect on our current thought processes and behavioral patterns, and strive to maintain a tranquil mindset. Furthermore, in the pursuit of our aspirations, we can facilitate personal growth. It is essential to recognize that the true essence of life lies in growth, rather than mere success. Lastly, we must adhere to a sense of responsibility and moral integrity. As graduates, it is crucial to proactively assume the responsibilities towards our nation, society, and family upon entering the professional world..
