Associate Professor Yang Chao Was Invited to Attend the 35th Session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and the 2026 Spring Coordination Meeting of the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Network Institutes (PNI)

From June 1 to 4, 2026, at the invitation of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Associate Professor Yang Chao, Director of the School of Law’s Office of International Cooperation (PNI Office), traveled to the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna to attend the 35th Session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.

During the meeting, Associate Professor Yang Chao, representing the College for Criminal Law Science(CCLS) at Beijing Normal University, engaged in friendly exchanges with representatives from PNI partner organizations—including the International Centre for Criminal Law Reform and Criminal Justice Policy (ICCLR&CJP) in Canada, the Korea Institute of Criminology and Justice (KICJ), the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFEI), the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), the United Nations African Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFRI), the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS) in Saudi Arabia, the United Nations Latin American Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (ILANUD), and other PNI partner institutions, as well as representatives from international cooperation organizations. They reached a consensus on deepening bilateral exchanges and jointly undertaking diverse academic cooperation activities in the future.

On the evening of June 3, 2026, Associate Professor Yang Chao also attended the 2026 Spring Coordination Meeting of the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Network Institutes (PNI). Representatives from various PNI member institutions briefed the meeting on recent significant academic events they had organized and changes in their organizational structures. Associate Professor Yang Chao also reported on the CCLS’s major academic research, student training, and international cooperation and exchanges over the past six months, fully demonstrating the CCLS’s active contributions. Subsequently, member institutions engaged in thorough discussions regarding the forums planned by the PNI to be held during the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, scheduled for September 26–30, 2026, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. They reached a consensus on the organizational progress of the host institutions for each sub-forum, the discussion topics, the formats of presentations, and the coordination mechanisms for side events during the Congress, and agreed to continue actively and steadily advancing the PNI’s various initiatives
