At the invitation of the Law School at the University of Hamburg, Professor Yuan Zhijie held in-depth discussions on bilateral exchanges with Professor Hinrich Julius, Director of the Sino-German Law School project, on November 13, exploring the potential for signing a formal cooperation agreement. Subsequently, at the invitation of the Law School at Maastricht University and the Law School at Erasmus University Rotterdam, Professor Yuan Zhijie and Ms. Ai Huizi formed a delegation to visit both institutions for a series of academic exchanges.

From November 16 to 17, the two faculty members visited the Law School at Maastricht University. Founded in 1974, Maastricht University is the youngest research university in the Netherlands, known for its high degree of internationalization, and its law program ranks 29th in the world in the 2025 Times Higher Education Law Subject Rankings. The Law School at Maastricht University also has a strong foundation for international cooperation with the BNU Law School: Professor Niels Philipsen has served as a visiting professor at the BNU Law School since 2023. Professor Michael Faure has also been invited to BNU’s Beijing and Zhuhai campuses for academic exchange activities and has held lectures in the field of environmental law. During this visit, our two faculty members were invited to participate in the IGIR's cutting-edge academic seminar on the development and regulation of the "Internet of Things" and had discussions with Professor Niels Philipsen. Both sides discussed the latest legislative dynamics, enforcement practices, and academic research hotspots in the fields of competition law and corporate law in China, the Netherlands, and the European Union. In addition, the two faculty members had in-depth discussions with the management team of the China Scholarship Council (CSC) project at Maastricht University, where both sides introduced their respective talent training models, overseas exchange programs, etc., with the aim of promoting future cooperation and exchanges between the two universities in legal talent cultivation. They also invited Professor Henry Otgaar to visit the BNU Law School at an appropriate time.

On November 18, the delegation visited the Law School at Erasmus University Rotterdam for an academic seminar. Consistently ranked among the world's leading institutions, holding the 107th position globally in the 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, Erasmus University is renowned for its Law School. The school is particularly distinguished for its strengths in interdisciplinary research, specifically in law and economics, commercial law, and law and technology, earning it a prestigious reputation both in Europe and internationally. During the visit, the delegation held discussions with Dr. Ilva Putzier, Director of International Affairs at the Law School; Professor Li Shu from the Law and Technology Center; Professor Bian Cheng from the China Law Center; and two doctoral student representatives. The visiting faculty provided a comprehensive overview of BNU Law School, detailing its history, disciplinary characteristics, academic strengths, research achievements, and existing international exchange programs. The discussions focused on exploring various avenues for future cooperation, including faculty and student exchanges, collaborative research, and the joint hosting of international academic conferences. Both parties expressed confidence in the potential for collaboration and committed to maintaining close communication to facilitate the establishment of formal relations between the two institutions.

The BNU Law School places great importance on international exchanges and cooperation, which has led to the formation of the School’s distinctive features and advantages. Among the young faculty members at the BNU Law School, three hold doctoral degrees from the Law School at Maastricht University and Tilburg University in the Netherlands, which lays a solid foundation for the BNU Law School's exchanges and cooperation with law schools in the Netherlands. This exchange activity further deepened the academic mutual learning between the BNU Law School and top law schools in the Netherlands in the professional field, opened up new channels for international cooperation for the BNU Law School, and also marked a new chapter for the BNU Law School in continuing to promote its internationalization strategy and cultivate high-end legal talents.
