Recently, the Law School of Beijing Normal University received the fifth batch of certificates for the inclusion of written teaching cases for the JM professional degree, issued by the Ministry of Education's Degree and Graduate Education Development Center and the National Graduate Education Steering Committee for Legal Professional Degrees. The case on foreign-related criminal law, co-authored by Professor Shang Haowen and doctoral student Lou Ziyi, titled "The Case of Yao Jinqi's Bribery in Domestic Trials of Overseas Fugitive Cases," has been included in the Ministry of Education's China Professional Degree Case Center. The collection of this batch of cases was launched nationwide in February 2025. Following an expert review organized by the National Graduate Education Steering Committee for Legal Professional Degrees and subsequent approval by the Ministry of Education, the case written by Professor Shang Haowen was successfully included.

The National Graduate Education Steering Committee for Legal Professional Degrees attaches great importance to the construction of the professional degree teaching case database, and the inclusion of cases is also a prerequisite for universities applying for doctoral programs in law. Professor Shang Haowen has long emphasized case teaching and case research, offering courses such as seminars on criminal law cases. Previously, two of his cases were selected in 2018 and 2020, making this his third case successfully included in the Ministry of Education's China Professional Degree Case Center.

Case teaching stands as an indispensable component and method for enhancing practical instruction among law graduate students. It also serves as a vehicle for thoroughly implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping's significant discourses on education and directives concerning graduate education initiatives. This approach is in harmony with the stipulations outlined in the "Decision of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Further Deepening Reform to Foster Chinese-style Modernization," particularly regarding the enhancement of practice-oriented educational and training mechanisms within law schools. Additionally, it aligns with the "Opinions of the Ministry of Education on Deepening the Classification Development of Academic and Professional Degree Graduate Education." The incorporation of the case authored by Professor Shang Haowen vividly showcases the Law School of Beijing Normal University's proactive endeavors in practical teaching. It highlights the accomplishments of the Law School's pedagogical reforms in Juris Master (JM) professional degree programs, thereby creating favorable conditions for elevating the quality of practical instruction for graduate students and advancing the caliber of practical talent development.
